Today’s Scripture

Matthew 4: 18-22 ESV

While walking by the Sea of Galilee, Jesus saw two brothers, Simon (who is called Peter) and Andrew his brother,
casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen. And he said to them, ‘Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.’ Immediately they left their nets and followed him.
And going on from there he saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets, and he called them. Immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him.

Reflection

Today we read of Jesus calling his first followers. He comes to them where they are in their ordinary life, as they are doing their everyday work.
His call to them draws on their own experience and widen their lives (and nets) to include not just fish, but people!

Consider an ordinary day as you are about your business at home or work.
Jesus asks you to see your skills and talents as vehicles of service. What would it look like to do this with your abilities? It may not be fishing, but it may be listening, organising, supporting, fixing, healing.
Bring your gifts into your prayer and ask God how you are being called to offer who you are in collaborating with God in the world.
