Today’s Scripture
Matthew 11:28-30 The Message
“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”
Reflection
The reminder of Advent is that the God who comes often comes in very surprising ways. Who would have expected God to come as a vulnerable human baby, born to a young unmarried girl, in a narrow parcel of land squeezed between much bigger, mightier nations? Who would have imagined that the God who comes in that way would then choose fishermen, a taxman and a terrorist to be among his followers? Or that he would invite those who are weary and worn out to come to him, learn from him, share his yoke, find rest in him?
How do you find yourself responding to Jesus’ invitation in today’s reading?
Where are you feeling tired, worn out and that you need to recover your life?
Where is Jesus inviting you to walk and work with him and to learn the unforced rhythms of grace?
Where do you yearn to learn to live freely and lightly?
Bring all of this into conversation with Jesus.
