Day 7

Today’s Picture: Women with Jesus by James Tissot

Jesus’ Family and Friends: Women Disciples

Perhaps unusually for his day and culture,
the followers of Jesus were men and women.
Though the women disciples were not mentioned much, they were most important.
It is noticeable how frequently women figure in the stories about Jesus’ life;
the subject of healings, the friends with whom he relaxed,
and the people who loved and anointed him.
It was women who provided support and women who were the first witnesses to the Resurrection.

Today’s Prayer

Preparation: Begin by stilling; then dedicating the time of prayer to God and asking God that all you think, feel and imagine are for the glory of God.

Gift:  Ask for what you desire.  Suggestion: To pray for the same depth of love that many of the women of the Gospel had for Jesus.

Setting: Watch the women and men who follow Jesus, both in life and to his death.

Luke 8:1-3 HCSB

Soon afterward He was traveling from one town and village to another,
preaching and telling the good news of the kingdom of God.
The Twelve were with Him, and also some women who had been healed of evil spirits and sicknesses: Mary, called Magdalene (seven demons had come out of her);

Joanna the wife of Chuza, Herod’s steward; Susanna;
and many others who were supporting them from their possessions.

Luke 23:26-27 HCSB

As they led Him away, they seized Simon, a Cyrenian,
who was coming in from the country,
and laid the cross on him to carry behind Jesus.
A large crowd of people followed Him,
including women who were mourning and lamenting Him.

Conversation: You may want to discuss with Jesus the importance of women in his and your life.

Final Prayer: End with a formal prayer such as the Lord’s Prayer/Our Father.
